A wide variety of symptoms such as nosebleeds, crusting, whistling noises, loss of smell, sleep disturbances, or breathing problems cause various limitations in everyday life, ranging from discomfort to pain. For many years, I have specialized in the surgical treatment of holes in the nasal septum (known as septal perforations or septal defects). As an experienced nasal surgeon with national and international experience, I perform these demanding procedures regularly and routinely several times a week. Reconstructions of the nasal septum are among the most complex operations in the field of nasal surgery. Thanks to microsurgical precision, many years of experience, and techniques I have developed myself, I achieve very good and lasting treatment results—even in difficult cases and after previous operations.

Safely closing nasal septum defects
Holes in the nasal septum (septum perforations, septum defects) almost always cause significant suffering and have a long-term impact on your health. And yet, you may have come across the widespread assumption that traditional procedures and methods do not bring the desired success. So what now? The solution is not that you have to accept your impairments. One solution is very likely to be a special microsurgical reconstruction technique (with cartilage transplantation and internal mucosal displacement, such as bridge flaps) to securely close holes in the nasal septum. This method is the most successful and scientifically best-studied surgical technique worldwide for the reconstruction of nasal septum defects (nasal septum perforations, holes in the nasal septum) – as a specialist, I have learned, scientifically accompanied, and further developed this technique.

The combination of surgical nose reshaping and functional correction allows for precise adaptation to individual patient needs in modern nose surgery. In most cases, it is possible to improve quality of life by reducing symptoms such as nasal breathing difficulties, snoring, or recurring sinus infections while creating a harmonious and natural nose profile. The correction of malformations, the consequences of injuries, or unsuccessful operations, while simultaneously correcting the functional septum, is also part of the combination of septoplasty and rhinoplasty.

Corrections after previous operations – precision and experience for optimal results
Follow-up operations after previous nasal septum operations, nasal septum reconstructions, or nose corrections are often performed when the previous procedure did not achieve the desired result. Such revision operations are far more difficult than an initial procedure on the nose and require refined surgical skills, many years of experience, and a deep understanding of the complex anatomy of the nose. As a specialized nose surgeon with a high level of professional expertise and many successful revision surgeries under my belt, I offer targeted corrections after previous surgeries—always with the goal of improving both the function and aesthetics of the nose in the long term.

Nasal septum perforations—i.e., holes or defects in the nasal septum—are often considered difficult to operate on. The reasons for this widespread assumption are, on the one hand, the rare occurrence of septum defects—and the associated uncertainties faced by doctors—and, on the other hand, the considerable difficulties that rhinoplasty surgeons encounter during surgery. However, thanks to my many years of experience in treating septum perforations, I can offer you a different assessment: in most cases, complete reconstruction of the nasal septum is possible – with a noticeable improvement in the quality of life for patients.
Since 2001, I have become an expert as an ENT specialist in the surgical treatment of nasal septum defects and have performed over 1,200 of these complex septum reconstructions to date – which is unique worldwide – with very good long-term results. The reconstruction of the nasal septum is undoubtedly one of the most technically demanding areas of nasal surgery – which makes precision and decades of experience in rhinoplasty all the more important.
